for Profit event features WisDOT projects
WisDOT earned accolades and provided information on key projects to minority business partners at the Partners for Profit Trade Fair and Construction Symposium held last month in Green Bay. The Wisconsin Supplier Development Council (WSDC) sponsors the annual event. On April 22, WisDOT Deputy Secretary Ruben Anthony, Jr., accepted an Award of Excellence from WSDC honoring the department's DBE contracting efforts on the Marquette Interchange project. Dr. Floyd Rose, President of WSDC, presented the award. The construction symposium on April 23 featured a number of business and government agencies that reviewed opportunities for minority contractors and suppliers in construction. Participants heard from WisDOT, the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District, the Department of Administration, the Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority and Johnson Controls. WisDOT's presentation included an update on the both the I-94 North-South Corridor and the US 41 Corridor expansion projects. The department remains on schedule to begin construction on US 41 in Winnebago County in 2009 and in Brown County in 2010. Building on the model of the Marquette Interchange, the project will include DBE business and labor development efforts. With a vibrant Native American population in northeast Wisconsin, the US 41 expansion project has also established a tribal committee. In addition to generally supporting the business and labor components of the project, the tribal committee will specifically examine federal rules and regulations concerning tribes and determine applicability to the US 41 project efforts. Copies of WisDOT's presentation slides will be made available on the WSDC Web site at www.suppliercouncil.org. |
