Final Marquette Interchange contracts meet DBE goals

Last month, WisDOT executed what are expected to be the final two construction contracts on the Marquette Interchange project. Both contracts continued the strong track record of DBE hiring for the project as each met the assigned goal and a DBE contractor earned the prime bid for one contract.

  • Zenith Tech of Waukesha earned the prime bid to construct a riverwalk section on the Milwaukee River below I-794 between Clybourn Street and St. Paul Avenue. The contract of just over $584,000 includes $115,600 for DBE firms, a 19.8% share that exceeds the goal of 15%. Two DBE subcontractors account for the share: Dolson, Incorporated of Rhinelander, and Habermehl Electric of Franklin.
  • Arbor Green of Portage, a DBE firm, earned the prime bid for landscaping in the core interchange. The firm submitted a bid of just over $134,000 to earn its second prime contract on the Marquette Interchange. Mega Rentals of Madison, another DBE firm, is the only subcontractor on the project, leading to a 100% DBE share that far exceeds the 12% contract goal. DBE firms have now achieved the prime bid on six contracts for the Marquette Interchange.

On August 19, Governor Jim Doyle and Transportation Secretary Frank Busalacchi held a ribbon cutting ceremony to open all freeway ramps and lanes in the Marquette Interchange, several months ahead of schedule. Work will continue on local street reconstruction, the riverwalk and the landscaping through the end of the year.
