I-94 update: design contract signed, traffic mitigation opportunities upcoming The I-94 North-South Corridor project continues to move forward with major construction to begin in Kenosha and Milwaukee counties in early 2009. The project calls for a total investment of $1.9 billion to rebuild, redesign and expand the freeway from the Illinois state line north to the Mitchell Interchange area in Milwaukee. Design contract includes 21% DBE share Earlier this year, WisDOT signed a $20.6 million contract with Milwaukee Transportation Partners to complete final design work on the project in Milwaukee County. This contract includes a 21.0% combined share for ten DBE subcontractors:
Buveck Consultants and Norris & Associates are new to the I-94 North-South Corridor project. The other DBE consultants had earned work on previous contracts. Final design work in Milwaukee County will continue for the next two years in advance of the Mitchell Interchange construction that is expected to start in 2011. Traffic mitigation construction opportunities slated for 2008 A previous edition of the DBE Contracting Update noted that the I-94 project is expected to have its first construction contract letting in August for work to relocate a stream near Racine County Highway G. WisDOT now expects two additional contracts to be bid in coming months for advanced traffic mitigation projects in Milwaukee County. The two projects will involve improvements to local streets around I-94 and I-894 that will serve as mitigation routes during freeway construction. Work will include constructing turn lanes, building median crossovers, extending turn bays and installing permanent and temporary signals. The anticipated let date for both projects is in early September. WisDOT's Highway Construction Contract Information (HCCI) site provides the advertisements for these and other state highway construction projects. The ads will include the DBE contracting goal for all projects. |
