I-94 traffic mitigation contracts exceed DBE goals

The I-94 North-South Corridor project continues its record of DBE successes as two more construction contracts met DBE goals this fall.

Loomis Road traffic mitigation

Zignego Company, Incorporated, of Waukesha earned a contract of more than $796,000 to construct traffic mitigation improvements at Loomis Road near I-894 in Milwaukee County. The work includes concrete and asphalt paving, signals, signing, marking and other work to prepare local streets to handle additional traffic during the I-94 reconstruction.

The contract includes a DBE share of $252,000 or 31.6%, with three DBE firms on the project: Community Engineering & Building Services, Milwaukee; Habermehl Electric, Franklin; and Con-Cor Company, Menomonee Falls. The contract called for a DBE goal of 20%.

WIS 241, Rawson Avenue mitigation

Zignego also earned a contract to construct traffic mitigation improvements on WIS 241 (27th Street) and Milwaukee County BB (Rawson Avenue). The winning bid for this contract was just under $1.176 million. Again, Zignego exceeded the 20% DBE goal with a total DBE share of 36.3% (approximately $426,000).

Six DBE subcontractors will take part in this project: Community Engineering & Building Services; Habermehl Electric; Con-Cor Company; Arbor Green, Portage; Dolson, Incorporated, Rhinelander; and Kramer, Incorporated, Waukesha.

The I-94 North-South Corridor project calls for a total investment of $1.9 billion to rebuild, redesign and expand the freeway from the Illinois state line north to the Mitchell Interchange area in Milwaukee by the end of 2016. Major construction will begin in Kenosha and Milwaukee counties in early 2009.
