WisDOT Holds Second Annual Tribal Transportation Conference

The Second Annual Tribal Transportation Conference was held this year on November 6 and 7, at the Radisson Hotel and Convention Center, Green Bay. The conference, called "Building Partnerships," provided an outstanding opportunity for state, tribal, and federal professionals to increase their knowledge of the government-to-government relationship between tribes of Wisconsin and WisDOT. The conference included sessions on current WisDOT tribal initiatives and provided opportunities for exchanging ideas, networking, and building new relationships to enhance services and address tribal transportation concerns.

Three tracks at the event featured information on:

  • Heritage Preservation and Cultural Resources, including an update on developing cultural preservation policy at WisDOT and identifying and building partnerships in this area.

  • Business and Economic Development with information on competitive quoting/bidding and successful project management/performance on WisDOT projects for Native American businesses in the construction and trades industries.

  • Transportation and Transit to help attendees understand tribal needs in transportation and transit and opportunities for partnerships between agencies and tribal governments.

For more information about issues covered at the conference, contact Alyssa Macy, Tribal Liaison, WisDOT Bureau of Equity and Environmental Services, at (608) 266-3761.
