| Partnering
workshops focus on success stories
More than 100 participants representing
many different contractors and consultants attended WisDOT's Partnering
for Employment workshops held in Keshena and Waukesha last month. The
theme for both workshops was "Paving the future on a foundation of
diversity." Some of the workshop highlights included the following:
- Representatives of
the International Union of Operating Engineers, the Wisconsin
Laborers District Council and the International Brotherhood of
Electrical Workers talked about the challenges and opportunities to
diversify their union workforces.
- Dennis McBride of
the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Milwaukee office spoke
about recent equal opportunity litigation cases and issues.
- At both workshops,
participants heard success stories from graduates of the
Transportation Alliance for New Solutions (TrANS) program. Following
the Waukesha workshop, a ceremony honored the most recent graduating
class from the Milwaukee area TrANS program.
- At both events,
contractors participated in speed networking sessions with recent
TrANS graduates. These short, one-on-one meetings are designed to
help potential workers make initial contacts with employers as they
begin construction careers.
