Surface Transportation Program - Urban

The Surface Transportation Program - Urban (STP-U) allocates federal funds to complete a variety of improvements to federal-aid-eligible roads and streets in urban areas.

The objective of STP-U is to improve federal aid eligible highways within urban areas. Projects must meet federal and state requirements. Communities are eligible for funding on roads functionally classified as major collector or higher.

2011-2014 approved projects

• Population 5,000 to 20,000
• Population 20,000 to 50,000
• Population 50,000 to 200,000
• Population over 200,000

No funds were allocated to the STP-Urban 20k-50k population program due to the large amount of projects in the current schedule. Therefore, no projects were approved for the 2011-2014 program cycle.

WisDOT will review remaining 2013-2014 funding and will begin accepting applications for the next STP-Urban program cycle (2013-2018) in January 2013. Information on the next cycle will be posted on this Web page throughout calendar year 2012.
