Northwest Region weekly construction update

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is providing a weekly update on construction projects in the Northwest Region, which includes the counties of Ashland, Barron, Bayfield, Buffalo, Burnett, Chippewa, Clark, Douglas, Dunn, Eau Claire, Jackson, Pepin, Pierce, Polk, Rusk, Sawyer, St. Croix, Taylor, Trempealeau and Washburn counties.
Construction related traffic impacts are subject to change and dependent on favorable weather patterns.

Ashland County
No state construction projects currently in progress.
Barron County
US 53 and County V (Project complete for this season, will resume spring 2013.)
Location: Approximately 27th Avenue to County SS
Schedule: May 3, 2012 to November 15, 2013
Cost: $10.6 million
Description: Construction of a new interchange north of County V with two bridges
and two retaining walls.
Traffic impact: Traffic will begin running on normal configuration (northbound on
northbound lanes, southbound traffic on southbound lanes) later this week. However, the median will
remain closed at County V. Motorists should follow detour.
Bayfield County
No state construction projects currently in progress.
Buffalo County
No state construction projects currently in progress.
Burnett County
No state construction projects currently in progress.
Chippewa County
No state construction projects currently in progress.
Clark County
No state construction projects currently in progress.
Douglas County
No state construction projects currently in progress.
Dunn County
WIS 170 – Project complete
Location: County D to WIS 40 (Wheeler to Colfax)
Schedule: August 20 to October 23, 2012
Cost: $2 million
Description: Resurfacing project
Traffic impact: No traffic impact.
Eau Claire County
I-94
Location: Mallard Road to County NN
Schedule: March 2012 to November 9, 2013 (Shut down for winter by November 21,
2012)
Cost: $34 million
Description: Pavement replacement, new structures
Traffic impact: Westbound I-94 traffic is now open to two lanes. Eastbound I-94
traffic is also open to two lanes and is being routed onto the temporary median road until November
5, 2012. At 6:30 a.m. on November 5, 2012 eastbound traffic will be taken off from the
temporary road and be open to one lane on the eastbound I-94 lanes. Both westbound and
eastbound will be one lane of traffic from 6 a.m. Monday, November 5, 2012 to 6 a.m. Friday,
November 12, 2012. County HH, County K and County V are all open.
I-94
Location: County E and County C bridges between Eau Claire and Menomonie
Schedule: March to November 14, 2012
Cost: $9.6 million
Description: Bridge deck replacement project
Traffic impact: Both directions of I-94 are now separated. From Sundays at 7
p.m. through Fridays at 10 a.m., there will only be one lane in each direction. All lanes will be
open on weekends. The speed limit is posted at 55 mph. Traffic will remain in this
configuration until the completion of the project. There will be intermittent flagging operations
on County E and County C from now until the end of the project.
Jackson County
I-94 – Project will be completed this week.
Location: County F to Black River (Osseo to Black River Falls)
Schedule: August 13 to October 31, 2012
Cost: $3.4 million
Description: Resurfacing project
Traffic impact: I-94 eastbound and westbound traffic from County F to the Black
River will have weekly lane closures from Monday at 6 p.m. to Friday at 9 a.m. US 12, from County A
to Ruf Road will have weekly lane closures starting August 19 through October 31. The I-94 / US 12
interchange will be closed to traffic from September 9 through September 23. Interchange traffic
will be detoured from US 12 to WIS 54 north to the I-94 / WIS 54 interchange at mile marker
116.
Pepin County

Polk County

Rusk County

St. Croix County
WIS 65 and US 12
Location: Near Roberts (Intersections of WIS 65 with County G, County TT, 120th /
US 12, 130th / US 12)
Schedule: April 18 to November 7, 2012
Cost: $7 million
Description: Construction of modern roundabouts and resurfacing approximately 3
miles of STH 65 between 70th Avenue and 130th Street.
Traffic impact: Local drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes to bypass the
work zones. There will be intermittent flagging throughout the project with an all around stop at
WIS 65 and County TT. 80th Avenue is closed for work. Starting on October 15, 2012 County TT will
be closed for 14 days and opening County TT and 80th Avenue starting approximately October 27,
2012.
I-94
Location: WIS 65 Roberts Interchange (Hudson to Menomonie)
Schedule: May 7, 2012 to November 2013
Cost: $24.8 million
Description: Interchange and I-94 reconstruction project. A diamond interchange
will be constructed with roundabouts at the ramp terminals. Two miles of I-94 will be
reconstructed.
Traffic impact: Staging construction. There will be lane closures for eastbound
I-94 traffic on October 29 through November 1, 2012 from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be lane
closure for westbound I-94 traffic on October 29 through October 31, 2012 from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
and November 1 from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Sawyer County
No state construction projects currently in progress.
Taylor County
WIS 102 – Project complete
Location: WIS 13 to Kennedy Street
Schedule: April 25 to October 31, 2012
Cost: $2.9 million
Description: Resurfacing project on WIS 102. There will be bridge construction on
Sheep Ranch Creek Bridge and bridge repair on Tannery Creek Bridge taking place.
Traffic impact: Traffic will be detoured by way of County D to Fayette Street
in Rib Lake. Pedestrian path has been paved west of the bridge.
Trempealeau County
No state construction projects currently in progress.
Washburn County
No state construction projects currently in progress.
