WisDOT conducting public information meeting in Rothschild

February 13, 2012

Meeting to focus on this year’s traffic impacts to Business 51 and southbound I-39/US 51

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is conducting an information meeting to discuss this year’s resurfacing of Business 51 from Marathon County L to Everest Drive in the village of Rothschild. WisDOT will also address the reconstruction of southbound I-39 between the Business 51 interchange (village of Rothschild) and the US 51/WIS 29 east interchange (town of Rib Mountain).

The meeting is scheduled for Thursday, February 23, at the Village of Rothschild Municipal Building, 211 Grand Avenue, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. A brief presentation is scheduled to begin at 5:45 p.m. Local officials, property owners, and other interested parties are encouraged to attend. Exhibits will be on display and WisDOT staff will be available to answer questions.

Planned improvements this year include:

  • Resurfacing Business 51 with new asphalt
  • Repairing some curb and gutter and drainage inlets along Business 51
  • Replacing the southbound pavement on I-39/US 51 from Business 51 to Foxglove Road
  • Reconstructing the I-39/US 51 southbound bridge over Business 51
  • Re-decking and repairing the I-39/US 51 southbound bridge over the Wisconsin River

Traffic management during construction

  • When work begins on southbound I-39/US 51 late this summer motorists can expect to encounter single lane closures during off-peak travel hours. A week-long single lane closure on southbound I-39/US 51 is scheduled for fall 2012. The speed limit in the work zone will be reduced to 55 mph when lanes are closed.
  • During the first two stages of construction on Business 51 motorists can expect lane closures with reduced lane widths. When crews are working between County L and Military Avenue motorists can expect to encounter flagging operations during off-peak travel hours.

Citizens who are deaf or hard of hearing and who require an interpreter may request one by contacting Kristin McHugh at (715) 421-8380 at least three working days prior to the meeting.
