Public meeting for Belknap Street in the city of Superior

February 14, 2012

Meeting to focus on preliminary designs for improvement of Belknap Street

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) Northwest Region in Superior is announcing a public information meeting to discuss preliminary design concepts for the improvement of Belknap Street (US 2) from Banks Avenue to Hill Avenue. WisDOT, in partnership with the city of Superior, is offering two opportunities to attend the meeting. The meetings are scheduled from 12 – 1:30 p.m. and 5 – 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 28, 2012 at the Douglas County – City of Superior Government Center, Douglas Finn Conference Room – Room 270, 1316 North 14th Street, Superior.

The proposed improvement project on US 2 would begin at the east side of the Banks Avenue intersection, continue east on Belknap Street, and end approximately 100 feet west of the East 7th Street intersection. The Belknap Street project is being planned at this time due to the deterioration of the existing concrete pavement. Maintenance efforts are at an extremely high cost and are no longer efficient in extending the life of the pavement. WisDOT is in the preliminary investigation phase with various concepts being considered for the improvement of the roadway; including areas of parking, sidewalk, street lighting and bike accommodation. Construction is tentatively scheduled for 2016.

The public is encouraged to attend the meeting, provide input and ask questions concerning this proposed project. Maps of the proposed improvement area will be on display. WisDOT and city of Superior representatives will be available to discuss the project on an individual basis.

If you are unable to attend the meeting, or would like more information, contact Project Leader Stephanie King at (715) 392-7874. Written comments regarding the project can be mailed to Stephanie King, WisDOT, 1701 North 4th Street, Superior, WI 54880 or emailed to nwr.dtsd@dot.wi.gov.
