Public meeting planned for WIS 59 (Greenfield Avenue) in Milwaukee County

February 20, 2012

A public meeting is planned to discuss the WIS 59 (Greenfield Avenue) project between 124th Street and 97th Street, announced the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT).

When: February 29, 2012 from 5 – 6:30 p.m., brief presentations given at 5 and 6 p.m.
Where: Madison Elementary School, 1117 South 104th Street, West Allis, WI

The project limits and construction schedule were recently adjusted to help aid in traffic flow during the Zoo Interchange project.

Work will take place in two portions of WIS 59 over two years:

  • WIS 59 between 124th Street and 106th Street:
Construction begins after State Fair in August 2012 through November 2012. The project will resurface pavement, add/extend left turn lanes, improve traffic signals, convert parking lanes to bicycle lanes and improve transit facilities. WIS 59 will remain open in each direction, with lane restrictions during some stages of the project.
  • WIS 59 between 106th Street to 97th Street:
Construction scheduled in 2013 and will reconstruct the I-894 interchange and bridge. Additional work includes replacing the existing roadway, add/extend turn lanes at 101st Street, improve traffic signals, convert parking lanes to bicycle lanes and improve transit facilities. During construction, the WIS 59 bridge over I-894 and most ramps to/from I-894 will be closed.

The community is encouraged to attend this open house meeting to hear more about these projects and their integration with the Zoo Interchange project. Members of the project team will be available to answer questions and concerns.
