Public meeting scheduled for WIS 178 in Chippewa County

February 27, 2012

Meeting to focus on improvements to highway

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) Northwest Region in Eau Claire is conducting a public information meeting to discuss the proposed improvement project on WIS 178 from County Road R to WIS 64 in Chippewa County. The meeting will be held on Wednesday, March 7, at the Cornell High School Commons. The informal open house meeting will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. with a short presentation at 6:10.

This segment of WIS 178 is currently in poor condition, and the crash rate is significantly higher than the statewide average for similar highways of this type. Project improvements include resurfacing, shoulder widening, and re-grading at certain locations. Intersection improvements, a retaining wall and guardrail improvements are also included in the project which is planned for 2014.

During construction, through traffic on WIS 178 would be detoured along County R to WIS 64. Access will be maintained for local traffic within the project limits.

Representatives from WisDOT will be available to discuss the proposed project and address any questions or concerns.
