I-43 in Sheboygan County to be detoured next week

Closures being done to accommodate work at WIS 32

(Green Bay) The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) Northeast Region is announcing these lane closures for I-43 near Cedar Grove in Sheboygan County. Both northbound and southbound I-43 will be completely detoured onto the adjacent access ramps at WIS 32 during the evening next week. This is being done so that the current bridge crossing I-43 can be removed. Motorists should be aware traffic impacts could be significant.

  • WIS 32 over I-43 is closing starting Monday, March 12 at 7 a.m. and will remain closed until mid-May. Also starting Monday, there will be various lane closures on northbound and southbound I-43 between Smies Road and Amsterdam Road in the town of Holland.
  • Tuesday, March 13 from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Wednesday, March 14 – northbound and southbound I-43 at WIS 32 will be detoured up the off-ramps and continue down the on-ramps. During this time, no access to the ramps will be permitted from the east or the west.
  • Wednesday, March 14 from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Thursday, March 15 – northbound and southbound I-43 at WIS 32 will be detoured up the off-ramps and continue down the on-ramps. During this time, no access to the ramps will be permitted from the east or the west.
  • Thursday, March 15 from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Friday, March 16 – northbound and southbound I-43 at WIS 32 will be detoured up the off-ramps and continue down the on-ramps. During this time, no access to the ramps will be permitted from the east or the west.
  • County O and County J under I-43 in the town of Sheboygan remain closed. The WIS 42 southbound on-ramp to I-43 and the I-43 southbound off-ramp to WIS 23 also remain closed. The ramps are scheduled to reopen by Memorial Day and County O and J by the 4th of July. 

This work is part of a $14.5 million project that began in September 2010 and be will finished by August of this year. The project totals 24 miles and includes asphalt paving, 8 new bridges, 3 bridge overlays, 2 deck replacements, beam guard, concrete base patching, ramp closure gates, law enforcement pads, and pavement marking.
