Governor Walker approves I-39/Maple Ridge interchange reconstruction in Marathon County

March 12, 2012

Public meeting to discuss construction activities scheduled March 21

As part of his efforts to create jobs and make sure Wisconsin is open for business, Governor Scott Walker recently signed a $10.8 million contract to reconstruct the I-39/Maple Ridge Road interchange located in the city of Mosinee and village of Kronenwetter. Construction is scheduled to begin in early April 2012.

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is conducting a public meeting to discuss planned closures and detours. The meeting is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, March 21, at the Kronenwetter Municipal Building, 1582 Kronenwetter Drive, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. A brief presentation is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. WisDOT staff will be available to answer questions. Local officials, property owners, and other interested parties are encouraged to attend.

Earth Inc. is the prime contractor for the project. Crews will reconstruct the interchange and local road connections. Work also includes I-39 pavement and signing improvements.

During construction, I-39 will remain open to traffic. Motorists can expect to encounter single lane closures on I-39, Maple Ridge Road, Old 51 and other side roads. Motorists can also expect to encounter ramp closures at various stages of construction. The ramps north of Maple Ridge Road will be closed from approximately June to mid-August. The ramps south of Maple Ridge Road will be closed from approximately late August to late October. No detour routes will be posted.

Construction is scheduled for completion by November 2012. The schedule is subject to change based on weather conditions and construction status.

The project will be paid with a combination of federal, state and local transportation funds.
