Work to begin on US 8 bridge in Polk County
March 16, 2012
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation in Superior announces that work will begin on the US 8 bridge over the St. Croix River between St. Croix Falls, Wisconsin and Taylors Falls, Minnesota Monday, March 26.
The $1.1 million rehabilitation project includes a new concrete overlay, new curb and gutter, barrier wall, decorative railing and new sidewalks.
The bridge will have two-10 foot lanes open for both east and westbound traffic, however all permitted trucks will be required to detour south through Osceola. During the pouring of the deck, regular traffic may also need to be detoured through Osceola for a period of four days, but that will be done during the week, when traffic is lighter. Motorists should anticipate delays, especially on weekends, when crossing the river due to the construction project.
The bridge was built in 1955 and the last rehabilitation project on the bridge was in 1986.
The project has a completion date of late July-early August 2012.
