Governor Walker approves Velp Avenue (US 141) improvements

March 22, 2012

Green Bay project beginning April 2

(Green Bay) As part of his efforts to create jobs and make sure Wisconsin is open for business, Governor Scott Walker has signed a $6.1 million contract to improve 1.7 miles of Velp Avenue from Norwood Avenue to Military Avenue in the city of Green Bay. Work is scheduled to begin Monday, April 2 and expected to be completed by the end of September.

The contractor is Vinton Construction Company, Manitowoc.

The project will provide new pavement, storm sewer, street lighting, and landscaping. A multilane roundabout is being constructed at the intersection of Velp Avenue and Atkinson Drive. Additionally, a grass median is being installed from Norwood Avenue to Gray Street. Wider outside lanes are being constructed and sidewalk added in some sections, improving safety for pedestrians and bicyclists.

Though Velp Avenue is remaining open during construction, traffic impacts will be significant and motorists should consider using alternate routes. Local traffic will be maintained on Gray Street, Rug Road and Tomlin Street. Other side roads may be closed for short periods. At the conclusion of the project, access from Lark Street/Syringa Boulevard will be closed.

Motorists are advised to use caution and remain alert when driving through this or any construction zone.
