Project set to begin on US 12 in Walworth County

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is announcing that work will begin next week on a seven-mile resurfacing project from WIS 20 to the US 12/WIS 67 split.

Local businesses and stakeholders are invited to a construction kick-off meeting:

When: April 12 at 3 p.m.
Where: 203 West Evergreen Parkway, Elkhorn, WI
*Bi-weekly business meetings will be held at the same location throughout construction.

The project includes milling, base patching, new pavement, beam guard replacement and concrete barrier.

US 12 will be closed to through traffic during construction, with access maintained for local traffic. The project will be constructed in two stages:

  • Mid-April to late May: US 12 closed from County A to the US 12/WIS 56 split.
    • Recommended detour: US 12 to I-43 to WIS 20
  • Late May to late June: US 12 closed from County A to WIS 20
    • Recommended detour: County A to County H, and County H to WIS 89 for truck traffic.

The contractor, Payne and Dolan, plan to finish the $1.6 million project by late June.

Drivers are encouraged to stay alert and drive carefully through the work zone.
