Public meeting scheduled for Hoan Bridge/I-794 Lake Interchange

April 18, 2012

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is announcing a public information meeting to discuss project details for the Hoan Bridge/I-794 Lake Interchange rehabilitation project in Milwaukee.

When: April 25, 2012 from 5–7 p.m.
Where: WisDOT Southeast Region, Milwaukee Office – 1001 W. St. Paul Avenue, Milwaukee, Wisconsin

The project team is progressing on the environmental analysis, preliminary structural design, construction staging and traffic analysis. The open house meeting will share project status and present construction staging options for public feedback.

Work will encompass three segments:

  • Hoan Bridge: Remove, replace the existing bridge deck, make structural modifications and repaint the bridge steel. The bridge will be rebuilt in its current configuration between Lincoln Avenue to the south and the Lake Interchange (near Chicago Street) to the north.
  • Lake Interchange (junction of I-794 from the Milwaukee River to the Hoan Bridge): Perform concrete overlays and surface repairs on existing structures.
  • I-794 east/west (between the Marquette Interchange to the beginning of the Lake Interchange): Remove and replace bridges with new structures.
The design process continues until spring 2013. Construction is slated for fall 2013 through spring 2016, with bridge painting possibly extending through 2016 or beyond.

Members of the project team will be available at the meeting to answer questions and concerns.
