Work to begin on US 8 bridge in Polk County

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation in Superior announces that work is beginning on the US 53/County V interchange.

The $10 million project includes reconstructing the at-grade intersection into an interchange. When completed, County V will underpass US 53 with vehicles merging onto the high-speed US 53 via ramps. All side-road crossing maneuvers will be eliminated.

Beginning next week, crossovers will be constructed and lanes widened to allow all traffic to use the northbound lanes. Traffic will also be detoured for westbound traffic into Haugen. Left turns will not be allowed from County V east onto US 53 south. The detour will take traffic north to County SS, through Haugen, onto 27th Avenue and back to US 53 southbound.

The project has a completion date of late November 2013.
