Governor Walker announces $135,000 transportation grant to Chaseburg
May 8, 2012
Award will create/retain 27 jobs at Organic Valley; improve access to new facility
Governor Scott Walker announced today that Chaseburg is being awarded a Transportation Economic Assistance (TEA) grant. The $135,000 award represents the Wisconsin Department of Transportation’s contribution toward the construction of a new village street, which will provide improved access to Organic Valley’s new facility in Chaseburg.
"The state’s commitment to this project allows Organic Valley to create and retain 27 jobs in Chaseburg," said Governor Scott Walker. "We are proud to partner with the village on this transportation project that will lead to economic growth in Vernon County."
In addition to the 27 direct jobs, this TEA project will indirectly support another 24 jobs. The $135,000 TEA grant represents half of the $270,000 construction project. The remainder of the funding is being provided by the village of Chaseburg.
Construction on the new street, to be called "Old Chaseburg School Road," is scheduled to be completed by August 2012. The project also involves intersection reconstruction at WIS 162.
Organic Valley purchased the former Chaseburg Elementary School and is remodeling the building for dairy operations, warehouse space, and research and development. Organic Valley, a family-farmer owned cooperative, is the country’s number one source of organic milk.
Since it was created in 1987, the TEA grant program has invested more than $86.5 million in 317 projects benefiting 343 businesses and creating or retaining 74,645 jobs in Wisconsin. WisDOT’s TEA program will celebrate 25 years of grant awards in September 2012.
