Governor Walker announces $205,000 transportation grant to Menomonee Falls

May 8, 2012

Award will create 41 new jobs at Wacker Neuson; improve access to company

Governor Scott Walker announced today that Menomonee Falls is being awarded a Transportation Economic Assistance (TEA) grant. The $205,000 award represents the Wisconsin Department of Transportation’s contribution toward a road construction project, which includes a roundabout, to improve access to Wacker Neuson’s facility in Menomonee Falls.

"Wisconsin’s commitment to this project will allow Wacker Neuson to add 41 new jobs to its workforce in Menomonee Falls," said Governor Scott Walker. "We are pleased to partner with the village on this transportation project that will lead to economic growth in southeast Wisconsin."

In addition to the 41 new direct jobs, this TEA project will indirectly support another 40 jobs. The $205,000 TEA grant represents 11.5 percent of the nearly $1.8 million project. The remainder of the funding is being provided by the village of Menomonee Falls.

Construction on the new public roadway, to be called "Megal Court," is set to begin in 2014. It also includes the reconstruction of Pilgrim Road (County Highway YY). The project will not only provide better access to Wacker Neuson, but nearby Harley-Davidson, as well.

Wacker Neuson is in the first phase of a three-phase expansion project at its Menomonee Falls site. The company is a global maker of compact construction, gardening and landscaping equipment.

Since it was created in 1987, the TEA grant program has invested nearly $86.5 million in 316 projects benefiting 342 businesses and creating or retaining 74,594 jobs in Wisconsin. WisDOT’s TEA program will celebrate 25 years of grant awards in September 2012.
