Governor Walker approves $225,000 project at Sparta/Fort McCoy Airport

May 9, 2012

Governor Scott Walker today announced a $225,000 project for pavement maintenance at the Sparta/Fort McCoy Airport in Monroe County.

Michael Gabor, airport engineering specialist with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT), said the project includes cracksealing and a new surface coating at the airfield. WisDOT uses this approach to significantly delay the high cost of pavement reconstruction.

The project is scheduled to begin in mid-summer and be completed by summer’s end.

Funding Breakdown

  • State = $180,000
  • City of Sparta = $45,000

The Sparta/Fort McCoy airport is located three miles outside of Sparta on the Fort McCoy complex, which is owned by the U.S. Army. The airport has two paved runways.
