Governor Walker approves project at Wausau Downtown Airport

June 1, 2012

Governor Scott Walker today announced a $794,553 construction project for a maintenance vehicle and fuel storage building at the Wausau Downtown Airport.

Terry Ripp, airport engineering specialist with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT), said the building will house a fuel truck and snow removal equipment, which was purchased a few years ago. Protecting this equipment from winter elements will increase response times for aircraft fueling and snow removal at the airport. The new building will also prolong the life of the equipment and provide a vehicle maintenance area for airport staff.

Construction is scheduled to begin in June and is expected to be completed in March 2013.

Funding Breakdown

  • State = $20,176
  • City of Wausau = $174,377
  • Federal Aviation Administration = $600,000

Wausau Downtown Airport has two paved runways. The primary runway is 5,200 feet, while the secondary runway is 3,040 feet. There is also a seaplane landing area next to the airport.
