Work begins on Fish Hatchery/Beltline interchange

June 25, 2012

Work has begun on the Fish Hatchery Road interchange with the Madison Beltline (US 12/18).

The $13.5 million project extends from Greenway Cross to Petra Place and includes reconstruction of the bridge over the Beltline and reconfiguration of the interchange ramps.

Workers are currently establishing temporary traffic controls for the project. Construction work is expected to begin in July. Congestion should be expected near the work zone, particularly during peak morning and afternoon travel times. Commuters are encouraged to use alternate routes. Access to local businesses will remain open for the duration of the project.

The project is designed to improve travel safety and efficiency for the public. Improvements include new pavement, wider lanes, and higher bridge clearance, along with the addition of bicycle lanes and sidewalks for pedestrians. Beltline resurfacing under the Fish Hatchery bridge will occur, as well.

Two lanes of traffic will be maintained on Fish Hatchery. Periodic additional lane and ramp closures will occur. Construction updates can be found by dialing 511 or logging onto www.511wi.gov.

The project is scheduled to be completed in August 2013. Motorists are urged to be patient and alert in and near the work zone.
