Governor Walker approves $6.6 million project at General Mitchell International Airport

June 26, 2012

Governor Scott Walker today announced a $6,620,000 project to repave a portion of the main runway intersection at General Mitchell International Airport in Milwaukee.

Wendy Hottenstein, airport development engineer with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT), said the project will improve pavement conditions at the airport’s main runway (1L/19R) intersection, which has well exceeded its lifespan. The project includes the second and third phases of this pavement improvement project at General Mitchell International.

The project is scheduled to begin this summer and will not cause any significant disruptions to airport operations.

Funding Breakdown

  • State = $827,500
  • Milwaukee County = $827,500
  • Federal Aviation Administration = $4,965,000

General Mitchell International Airport has five hard-surfaced runways. More information on Wisconsin’s largest airport can be found online at www.mitchellairport.com.
