Governor Walker approves nearly $3 million project at Austin Straubel International Airport

June 26, 2012

Governor Scott Walker today announced a $2,950,000 project to reconstruct portions of the air carrier ramp at Austin Straubel International Airport, along with the purchase of a new snow plow/broom vehicle to clear snow from airfield pavements.

Matt Malicki, airport development engineer with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT), said several areas of the ramp have deteriorated past the point of regular maintenance. The snow plow/broom vehicle will be added to the airport’s fleet of snow removal equipment to help clear pavements in a timely manner.

The reconstruction project is scheduled to be completed by December 2012.

Funding Breakdown

  • State = $147,500
  • Brown County = $147,500
  • Federal Aviation Administration = $2,655,000

Austin Straubel International Airport is located southwest of the city of Green Bay. It is a primary service air carrier airport, with two concrete runways, 7,700 feet and 8,200 feet in length. The airport has a modern terminal building providing passenger services to the traveling public.
