Tragic incident on US 41 Project in Oshkosh

(Green Bay) The Wisconsin Department of Transportation’s (WisDOT) Northeast Region is saddened to report that a construction worker died this morning. This incident involving a crane occurred within the work zone of the US 41 Project on the Lake Butte des Morts Causeway in Oshkosh. The individual was an employee of Spancrete of Waukesha, WI. Spancrete is a subcontractor to Lunda Construction Company based in Black River Falls, WI, who is building this $54 million project for WisDOT. A second person operating the crane was also injured. Lunda employs that individual and the extent of injuries is unknown.
The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Department and the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) are investigating the incident. WisDOT’s top priority is keeping construction projects safe for workers, the community and the traveling public. WisDOT will work with all agencies involved to review safety procedures and to make sure all safety guidelines are followed. This is a tragic event and WisDOT staff is keeping the employee’s family in our thoughts and prayers.
