I-39 public information meeting scheduled in Mosinee

July 17, 2012

Proposed project will replace bridge decks over WIS 153

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is conducting a public information meeting to discuss plans to replace the decks on the I-39 bridges over WIS 153, located in the city of Mosinee.

The meeting is scheduled to take place at the Marathon County Public Library, 123 Main Street, Mosinee on Thursday, July 26 from 5 to 7 p.m. A brief presentation is scheduled to begin at 5:15 p.m. The remainder of the meeting will follow an open house format. Maps and exhibits regarding the proposed project will be on display. Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) representatives will be available to discuss and address any questions.

The proposed project includes:

  • Replacing the concrete bridge decks and parapets
  • New guardrail and some pavement replacement on I-39 near the I-39/WIS 153 interchange
  • Repairs to the concrete slope pavement under the bridges adjacent to WIS 153
  • Some minor repairs to the median along WIS 153

Construction is currently scheduled to begin in fall 2014 with completion in fall 2015. However, construction may be advanced to begin in spring 2014 and end in the fall of 2014.

During construction, I-39 will remain open to traffic; however, short term off-peak lane closures on I-39 will be necessary at times. A temporary bridge and roadway will be constructed, in the median of I-39, between the existing bridges to allow each bridge to be closed during deck replacement. All ramps at the interchange will remain open to traffic throughout construction. WIS 153 will remain open to traffic; however single lane closures may be necessary at times.

Citizens who are deaf or hard of hearing and who require an interpreter may request one by contacting Kristin McHugh at (715) 421-8380 at least three working days prior to the meeting.
