Governor Walker approves WIS 54 improvements in Waupaca County

WIS 54 detoured during construction, information meeting scheduled August 2

As part of his efforts to create jobs and make sure Wisconsin is open for business, Governor Scott Walker recently signed a $2.2 million contract to improve five miles of WIS 54 between the Portage County line and Foxfire Drive.

Construction is scheduled to begin August 14, 2012.

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is conducting a public information meeting at the Farmington Town Hall, N3095 Waupaca County Q, Waupaca on Thursday, August 2 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. A brief presentation is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. and the remainder of the meeting will follow an open house format. WisDOT representatives will be available to address any questions as well as to give an overview on what to expect during construction.

B. R. Amon and Sons, Inc. is the prime contractor for the project. Crews will remove four inches of asphalt pavement, pulverize the remaining asphalt into the base, and repave the road. Other improvements include replacing the beam guard and paved shoulder along both sides of the road.

During construction, WIS 54 will be closed to through traffic and detoured via I-39 and US 10. The highway will remain open to local traffic for residents and businesses located within the project limits; however the surface may not be paved. Local motorists can expect to encounter flagging operations and some minor delays. Temporary driveway closures will be necessary at times. Homeowners and businesses will be notified in advance before closing a driveway. Access to Hartman Creek State Park will be maintained.

Construction is scheduled for completion in October 2012.

Eighty percent of the project will be paid with federal transportation funds; the remaining 20 percent will be paid with state transportation funds.
