WIS 29 improvements in Marathon County scheduled to begin in August

Construction information meeting planned for August 7

Construction of approximately 3.4 miles of WIS 29 between WIS 107 (Marathon City) and Marathon County O is scheduled to begin as early as Monday, August 13.

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is conducting a public meeting to discuss the contractor’s schedule and construction staging. The meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, August 7, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the Marathon Elementary School, 100 Spring Valley Drive, Marathon. WisDOT representatives will be available to discuss and address any questions. Business and property owners are encouraged to attend.

James Petersons and Sons is the prime contractor for the $23 million project. Work includes:

• Installation of a storm sewer system to collect rainwater and snowmelt.
• Conversion of the two-way, center turn lane into a safety barrier median.
• Removal of many of the existing at-grade intersections.
• Construction of new service roads; Maratech Drive will be extended to 144th Avenue; County O will be realigned to WIS 29 and a WIS 29/County O interchange will be constructed.
• Right-in and right-out access will be provided to westbound WIS 29 at 144th Avenue.

During construction, WIS 29 will remain open to traffic; however, motorists can expect to encounter single lane closures, flagging operations and some delays. To avoid delays motorists may want to allow extra travel time or take a different route.

Completion is scheduled for November 2013. The schedule is dependent on favorable weather conditions and construction status.

The project will be paid with a combination of federal and state transportation funds.

Motorists should slow down, use caution and stay alert when driving through construction zones. To avoid delays, consider taking an alternative route and avoid peak travel periods.
