State reprimands Wausau area auto dealership

July 23, 2012

In an effort to keep its motor vehicle dealership license, Budget Auto Plus, 4308 Stewart Avenue, Wausau, agrees to follow better business practices. The dealership admitted to numerous violations of state law including:

  • Failing to include a warning on the motor vehicle purchase contract pertaining to illegal vehicle conditions.
  • Charging a service fee for a recreational vehicle.
  • Selling recreational vehicles without a recreational vehicle license.
  • Publishing advertisements featuring vehicles not inspected for sale.
  • Displaying vehicles not inspected for sale with vehicles offered for sale.
  • Failing to transfer interest in a vehicle.
  • Failing to provide records.
  • Increasing the advertised price of a vehicle.

Budget Auto Plus agrees to allow agents or employees of the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) to inspect all business records necessary to verify that it has discontinued these illegal practices and is in compliance with state law.

This agreement is part of a special order issued by David Schwarz, administrator of the state Department of Administration's Division of Hearings and Appeals. This action is the result of an investigation by WisDOT’s Division of Motor Vehicles’ Dealer and Agent Section. Violation of a special order is grounds for denial, suspension, or revocation of a representative license.
