Governor Walker approves nearly $1.5 million project at General Mitchell International Airport

Governor Scott Walker today announced a $1,459,000 project to improve airfield safety, pavements and fencing at General Mitchell International Airport in Milwaukee.

Wendy Hottenstein, airport development engineer, with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT), said the project will replace deteriorating signage and install in-pavement edge lighting along the airport’s primary runway (1L/19R). It also includes replacing pavement joints on the runway. In addition, sections of the existing airport perimeter fence, along Howell Avenue, will be replaced to increase the height from six feet to 10 feet.

The project is scheduled to be completed this fall.

• State = $182,375
• Milwaukee County = $182,375
• Federal Aviation Administration = $1,094,250
