Mason Street interchange on US 41 in Green Bay opening July 28

Mason Street bridge and all interchange ramps ready for traffic Saturday morning

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) Northeast Region is announcing the Mason Street interchange at US 41 in Green Bay, including all ramps and the Mason Street bridge over US 41, is scheduled to reopen to motorists by 5 a.m. on Saturday, July 28. The opening marks a significant step toward completion of the $29 million reconstruction project, paving the way for safe and efficient traffic flow through this vital business corridor.

"When WisDOT first presented this project to the public, we promised to demolish, rebuild and reopen the Mason Street interchange in six months," said Will Dorsey, WisDOT’s northeast region director. "Thanks to a number of factors, we are able to complete the project on schedule. I want to thank all the business owners and residents in this area, who have been patiently waiting for the barricades to be pulled away."

The interchange closed to traffic for demolition February 1, scheduled for completion August 1. The project replaces the 46-year old bridge over US 41 and includes construction of three multilane roundabouts along Mason Street at the ramp terminals and Taylor Street intersection. Pedestrian access will be limited until early next week. Additional work within the interchange continues through October, requiring occasional lane closures.
