Public meeting slated on I-94 Stadium Interchange study

First opportunity for community to provide input on this important corridor

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) will host a set of public information meetings next week to discuss the I-94 East-West study between 70th Street and 25th Street in Milwaukee County. The open house style meetings will be held:

• August 21, 2012, 4-8 p.m.

• August 23, 2012, 4-8 p.m.
  Burbank Elementary School

The same information will be presented at both meetings. WisDOT is interested in hearing from the public on ideas for possible improvements to the I-94 East-West Freeway corridor. The study team will be on hand to listen to concerns and answer questions.

Stakeholders will have the opportunity to make suggestions and sketch out alternatives for possible improvements.

Work is underway on an environmental and engineering analysis of the I-94 East-West Freeway Corridor. The project will cover approximately 2.85 miles of I-94 between 70th Street and 25th Street in Milwaukee County. The study includes one system interchange (US 41/WIS 341/Miller Parkway) and six service interchanges (70th Street/68th Street, Hawley Road, Mitchell Boulevard, 35th Street, 26th Street/St. Paul Avenue, and West Wisconsin Avenue/Wells Street). No decisions have been made at this point.

This portion of the I-94 East-West Freeway corridor opened to traffic in 1961 and 1962. WisDOT has maintained and rehabilitated the ramps, bridges, pavements and other structures a number of times over the past 50 years, but the corridor is nearing the end of its useful life. Now is the time to take the next steps to determine how the corridor should be rebuilt to ensure that it serves the economy of Southeastern Wisconsin for decades to come.
