US 41/WIS 21 interchange southbound ramps opening August 30
August 28, 2012
Ramps had been closed since March 19
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) Northeast Region in Green Bay is announcing the WIS 21 ramps to and from US 41 southbound are tentatively opening Thursday, August 30 by 4 p.m. They were closed Monday, March 19 when the complete interchange was shut down. The northbound ramps are scheduled to reopen November 15 when the interchange is completed.
The project involves rebuilding the WIS 21 interchange where WIS 21 will now pass over US 41; construction of four roundabouts on WIS 21, at the US 41 ramp terminals and Washburn and Koeller streets intersections; and the reconstruction and expansion of US 41 between Witzel Avenue and US 45. Construction on the expansion of US 41 through Winnebago County will continue through July 2013.
In addition to the ramps to and from US 41 northbound remaining closed:
- WIS 21 remains closed to all motorists between Koeller Street and the southbound ramps.
- Access is being maintained to local businesses in the WIS 21 interchange area.
- Motorists need to use caution when driving through this or any work zone.
Cost for this work associated with reconstruction of the US 41/WIS 21 interchange is $54 million. Total cost for the expansion of US 41 through Winnebago County is $444 million.
All lane restrictions, road openings and work operations are weather-dependent and subject to change.
