Meeting to focus on proposed plans to resurface the roadway between Kent Street and Division Street in Wausau
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is conducting a public information meeting to present the proposed resurfacing project of Business 51 (Grand Avenue) in Wausau between Kent Street and Division Street.
The meeting is scheduled to take place on Wednesday September 5, at the Wausau City Hall Council Chambers, 407 Grant Street, Wausau, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. A brief presentation is scheduled to begin at 5:15 p.m. After the presentation, the meeting will follow an open house format. Exhibits showing the proposed project will be on display and WisDOT representatives will be available to answer questions.
The proposed resurfacing project is intended to extend the service life of the existing pavement. Construction on Grand Avenue will consist of milling and overlaying the existing pavement and corrugated median with 2 inches of asphalt overlay. Select joints in the concrete pavement and short sections of concrete pavement will be replaced prior to the asphalt overlay. Spot improvements will be made to inlets and manholes in poor condition, and the existing lighting system will be replaced. The proposed improvements also include on-street bicycle accommodations.
WisDOT is working with local officials to determine the schedule for construction, which is expected to occur in 2013 or 2014.
During construction Grand Avenue will remain open to traffic. Access to adjacent properties, including midblock commercial and residential driveways, will be provided at all times except for short periods during milling and paving operations.
Citizens who are deaf or hard of hearing and who require an interpreter may request one by contacting Kristin McHugh at (715) 421-8380 at least three working days prior to the meeting.
