Interchange to close for 60 days during reconstruction
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) Northeast Region in Green Bay is announcing the US 41/Main Avenue interchange in De Pere will close to traffic on Monday, September 17 for reconstruction. Traffic impacts will be significant and motorists are advised to plan ahead.
The closure is part of the $57 million project to reconstruct the US 41/Main Avenue interchange and expand US 41 to six lanes of traffic between Orange Lane and Glory Road. Construction at the interchange and along US 41 began in March. The interchange and Main Avenue is expected to reopen to traffic mid-November while all work is scheduled to be complete by June 2013.
During reconstruction all ramps and Main Avenue, from Ashwaubenon Creek to Lawrence Drive, will close to traffic for 60 consecutive days. The Lawrence Drive park and ride lot will also close for reconstruction during this time.
Access from Lawrence Drive to Main Avenue will remain but access from Mid Valley Drive to Main Avenue will be closed during construction.
In conjunction with this work, the Ashland Avenue median at Parkview Road will close. The median closure is intended to enhance safety and improve traffic operations while the Main Avenue interchange is reconstructed. Access to and from Parkview Road, at Ashland Avenue, will be limited to right-turn in and right-turn out onto Ashland Avenue.
For US 41, two lanes of traffic will be maintained in both directions during daylight hours. During evening hours, periodic lane closures are planned. Access to southbound US 41 from Ashland Avenue will be maintained through the use of a temporary access road.
The project incorporates multiple features to enhance safety and traffic flow. Major improvements include:
- Reconstruction of the Main Avenue interchange to include two roundabouts on Main Avenue at the US 41 ramp terminals
- Reconstruction of Main Avenue from Ashwaubenon Creek to just west of Lawrence Drive
- Installation of bicycle and pedestrian accommodations
- Reconstruction of the park and ride lot on Lawrence Drive
Motorists should remain alert and use caution when driving through this or any work zone.
All lane restrictions, road openings and work operations are weather-dependent and subject to change.
