Reminder: Brown County drivers on WIS 29 urged to find alternate routes
September 11, 2012
Traffic being moved to newly constructed Shawano Avenue
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) Northeast Region in Green Bay is reminding motorists of a significant traffic shift tonight (Tuesday, September 11) on WIS 29 between County FF and US 41 in Brown County. Motorists that use this stretch of road are again strongly encouraged to seek alternate routes.
- Beginning at 8 p.m. tonight, eastbound WIS 29 will be closed from County FF to US 41. The detour route will be County FF to WIS 54 to US 41. Westbound WIS 29 will remain open to one lane of traffic. Packerland Drive/Cardinal Lane, between County RK and Dousman Street will also close to traffic at that time. The north and southbound US 41 on-/off-ramps at WIS 29 will remain open; however, lane closures will occur starting at 6 pm.
- Wednesday, September 12 – Beginning at 5 a.m., WIS 29 will reopen between County FF and Packerland Drive. However, existing WIS 29 will remain closed between Packerland Drive and US 41 with all WIS 29 traffic being rerouted to the new Shawano Avenue. Access will be maintained to US 41 from WIS 29/Shawano Avenue. This new configuration will remain in effect until April 2014.
Closing WIS 29 and moving traffic to the new Shawano Avenue will significantly increase congestion at this location for the next 19 months. WisDOT is strongly encouraging drivers to consider alternate routes. Access is being maintained to all businesses in the area.
WisDOT will provide regular updates regarding traffic impacts associated with this project. For more information, check out the US 41 website.
