Governor Walker approves more than $245,000 project at John F. Kennedy Memorial Airport

Governor Scott Walker today announced a $245,614 project to construct an electrical vault building and install new runway lighting at John F. Kennedy Memorial Airport in Ashland.

Eric Johnson, airport development engineer with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT), said the project will relocate the current electrical equipment inside the terminal building to a separate electrical vault building. This transfer will create needed space in the terminal building. The project also includes the replacement of the airport’s outdated Runway End Identification Lights (REIL) system. The new lighting system will improve safety for aircraft operations.

The project is expected to begin in June 2013 and be completed by August 2013.

Funding Breakdown

• State = $10,307
• City and county of Ashland = $10,307
• Federal Aviation Administration = $225,000

JFK Memorial Airport has two paved runways. The primary runway is 5,200 feet and the secondary or crosswind runway extends 3,500 feet.
