Governor Walker approves more than $5 million project at Wittman Regional Airport

September 12, 2012

Governor Scott Walker today announced a $5,048,614 project to construct a perimeter road and install security fencing at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh.

Terry Ripp, airport engineering specialist with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT), said the perimeter road will limit public access to the airport property, while providing internal access for airport maintenance vehicles. The security fence will restrict unauthorized personnel and wildlife from interfering with aircraft operations. Currently, the northern part of the airport is fenced off, but the southern part has open access.

The project will begin this summer and is expected to be completed by June 2014.

Funding Breakdown

  • State = $242,903
  • Winnebago County = $242,903
  • Federal Aviation Administration = $4,562,808

Wittman Regional Airport has four paved runways. The primary runway is 8,002 feet. The airport is home to EAA AirVenture, which attracts 500,000 aviation enthusiasts from more than 60 countries each summer.
