Zoo Interchange reconstruction project public meetings planned next week

September 13, 2012

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) invites the community to attend public information meetings next week to discuss construction planning efforts on the Zoo Interchange:

September 19 and 20, 2012
4 to 7 p.m.
State Fair Park – Tommy Thompson Youth Center
640 S. 84th Street, Milwaukee, WI
MCTS Route 67
*Same information presented on both nights, stop by at a time that is convenient for you.

At the meeting, the public is encouraged to:

  • Meet the project team.
  • Learn about construction plans for 2013-2014 and ongoing design efforts for the corridor.
• Hear about bike and pedestrian accommodations and ridesharing options.
  • Ask questions about construction phasing.
  • Listen to traffic planning efforts underway this year.

The Zoo Interchange is Wisconsin's oldest and busiest interchange. It opened to traffic in 1963 and has deteriorated with age. WisDOT has coordinated closely with local and regional governments and agencies to develop reconstruction plans to meet the needs of the public. The overall goal for the Zoo Interchange project is to create a safer, more reliable transportation system to serve the state of Wisconsin.

The facility is wheelchair accessible. Those who are unable to attend the meeting, or would like more information, can contact the project team at zooicteam@gmail.com or call (262) 521-5373. Citizens who are deaf or hard of hearing and require an interpreter may request one by contacting the project team at least three working days prior to the meeting.
