WisDOT schedules WIS 29 (Sunrise Drive to Business 51) public meeting

September 18, 2012

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is conducting a public involvement meeting for the proposed improvements to WIS 29 located in the village of Rothschild and town of Rib Mountain.

The meeting is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, September 26, from 5 to 7 p.m. in the community room of the village of Rothschild Municipal Building, 211 Grand Avenue, Rothschild. A brief presentation is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. The remainder of the meeting will follow an open house format. Maps and exhibits of the project will be on display and WisDOT staff will be available to answer questions.

The pavement on WIS 29 is deteriorating and needs to be replaced. Also, the bridge decks of the structures located along this segment of the highway are nearing the end of their service life and require replacement. The Sunrise Drive overpass does not meet current height requirements and needs to be raised.

The purpose of the meeting is to provide information on the proposed improvements, review alternatives being considered, and obtain input that will help the department move forward with the design process. Proposed improvements include:

  • Replacing approximately 1,000 feet of the existing pavement of eastbound and westbound WIS 29 from just west of the Wisconsin River to just east of Business 51 (replace signs, pavement marking, and culverts as warranted).
  • Improving the eastbound and westbound WIS 29 bridges over the Wisconsin River and Business 51. This work includes deck replacement and widening the westbound WIS 29 bridges over the Wisconsin River and Business 51 and the eastbound WIS 29 bridge over Business 51. The eastbound WIS 29 structure over the Wisconsin River will have its deck replaced.
  • Improving the Sunrise Drive overpass, including deck repairs, placement of a concrete overlay on the deck, and parapet replacements. The bridge will also be raised on the north end to provide clearance for oversized, overweight vehicles.

Construction is currently scheduled to begin in 2014 continuing into 2015 and 2016.

Citizens who are deaf or hard of hearing and require an interpreter may request one by contacting Kristin McHugh at least three working days prior to the meeting.
