Governor Walker approves improvements for many NE Wisconsin highways

Rumble strips being installed to improve safety

As part of his efforts to create jobs and make sure Wisconsin is open for business, Governor Scott Walker recently approved a $1.8 million contract to improve several miles of Wisconsin roadways with the installation of rumble strips. Work will begin Monday, September 24 and be completed by early November.

Century Fence, Green Bay is the prime contractor.

Center line and shoulder rumble strips are proven, cost-effective countermeasures that reduce cross center line and run-off-the-road crashes. Rumble strips alert drivers via an audible warning (rumbling sound) and feeling (vibration) that their vehicles have drifted out of the travel lane, allowing them time to readjust their movement and avoid a crash.

Highways include:

• US 10 (Calumet County) from County N to west county limits (gapping Brillion);
• US 10 (Manitowoc County) from east county limits to I-43 (gapping Reedsville and Whitelaw);
• WIS 15 (Outagamie County) from US 45 to Julius Drive in Greenville (gapping Hortonville);
• WIS 47 (Outagamie County) from County O to County B;
• WIS 32 (Oconto County) from Gillett to Lakewood (gapping Suring, Mountain, and Lakewood);
• WIS 32 (Forest County) from Townsend to Wabeno (gapping Townsend and Carter);
• WIS 42 (Door County) from Sturgeon Bay to Egg Harbor (gapping Carlsville);
• US 141, US 141/US 8 (Marinette County) from Wausakee to Amberg (US 141) and from Pembine to Niagara (US 141/US 8);
• US 8 (Marinette County) from US 141 to Michigan state line.

The road will remain open to traffic during construction with single lane closures and flagging operations. There is the potential for backups.

Work will begin in Marinette County and generally move from north to south. WisDOT will provide weekly updates regarding the location of construction.

Motorists are reminded to remain alert when driving through these or any work zones.
