WIS 57 opening to traffic in Sheboygan County October 5

September 21, 2012

Closure ending one month early

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) Northeast Region in Green Bay is announcing WIS 57 in Sheboygan County will be open by the end of the day Friday, October 5. The road had been scheduled to remain closed until the end of October.

WisDOT NE Region Director Will Dorsey said, "We are pleased to be able to modify our project schedule and open the highway to traffic one month earlier than planned. This should be good news for local businesses and everyone who drives this highway."

Traffic over the Onion River near Waldo will continue to be restricted to one lane in each direction through project completion due to continuing bridge deck work.

To facilitate the earlier opening of WIS 57, the intersection of WIS 28/57/County V will also have these restrictions effective October 5:

  • WIS 28 eastbound will be closed at WIS 57. Motorists will continue to have complete access up to the intersection of WIS 28 and WIS 57 from the west, but will be unable to proceed through the intersection. WIS 28 traffic coming from the west and heading east wanting to access WIS 57 will be detoured from WIS 28 to County W to WIS 57.
  • Traffic will be unable to turn left onto WIS 28 westbound from WIS 57 northbound. (Traffic will be able to access WIS 28 westbound from WIS 57 southbound.)
  • Traffic will be unable to access WIS 57 from County V westbound.
  • Traffic will be unable to turn left onto County V eastbound from WIS 57 southbound. (Traffic will be able to access County V eastbound from WIS 57 northbound.)

Work is scheduled to be finished by the end of October.

The $1.6 million project began in August and includes culvert replacement, pavement repair, bridge rehabilitation and new left turn lanes at WIS 57 and County C. The 24-mile project runs from the Ozaukee/Sheboygan County line to the Manitowoc/Sheboygan County line.

This work is being done this year in preparation for the resurfacing of the roadway scheduled for 2013. That project will be done under traffic and the highway will remain open.

Motorists are reminded to stay alert and use caution when driving through this or any work zone.
