Public meeting set for US 14/61 study of Viroqua/Westby bypasses
October 11, 2012
A public information meeting will be held Wednesday, November 7 regarding the study and official mapping of the bypasses around Viroqua and Westby. The meeting will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Westby High School Cafeteria, 206 West Avenue South. A formal presentation will be given at 6 p.m.
The meeting will include updated maps to depict the possible right of way that would be preserved and officially mapped as four-lane bypasses. Several updates and revisions have been made to the proposed bypass since previous public information meetings. These updates are based on public input, agency coordination and further engineering. In addition, several concepts for preserving right of way for future interchanges and grade separations have been developed. Some new local road connections are also proposed that would maintain local traffic circulation.
The public is encouraged to attend the meeting, provide input and ask questions concerning this project.
The study consists of preserving and officially mapping right of way for a four-lane bypass of Viroqua and Westby on US 14/61. The end result of the study would be to officially map the corridors via Wisconsin State Statute 84.2959. The study does not consist of any construction of the bypasses but rather the preservation of right-of-way for possible future use.
