Public information meeting set for East State Street reconstruction, Mauston

October 17, 2012

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) and the City of Mauston will hold a public information meeting to discuss the proposed East State Street reconstruction project. The project is currently planned for 2015.

The meeting will be held on Wednesday, November 7 at 5 p.m. at the Mauston City Hall, 303 Mansion Street. There will be a short presentation at 5:30 p.m. The remainder of the meeting will be conducted in an open house format. Staff will be available to address questions pertaining to the East State Street project, as well as any questions on the construction schedule of the separate WIS 58/82 redesignation projects currently under construction in 2012 and 2013. The public is encouraged to attend this meeting to ask any questions and provide input.

The East State Street project will reconstruct State Street (US 12) in downtown Mauston between Hanover Street and Pine Street, replacing the existing deteriorated pavement in this area. The proposed improvement includes pavement replacement, curb and gutter construction, sidewalk and terrace construction, street lighting, storm sewer modifications, and updated city utilities. The intersection of Division Street and East State Street will be reconstructed with improved lane configurations and new traffic signals. Work on Division Street will extend from East State Street to Maine Street.  A detour using I-90/94 is currently planned.

Representatives from the WisDOT, the engineering consulting firm of MSA Professional Services, Inc., and the City of Mauston will be available to explain exhibits and address questions on the aspects of the proposed project. Persons with information regarding privately owned utilities or structures that encroach into the projects limits and the highway right-of-way in the project area are encouraged to attend this meeting or provide comments.

Wheelchair accessibility is available at this meeting site. Citizens who are deaf or hard of hearing and who require an interpreter may request one by contacting Jeremy Krachey of the Wisconsin Department of Transportation at least three working days prior to the meeting.
