November 8, 2012

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) invites the community to a ribbon cutting ceremony to acknowledge the completion of the $300 million Mitchell Interchange project in Milwaukee County.

When: Friday, November 9, 2012 at 1 p.m.

Where: Layton Avenue entrance ramp to I-43 northbound (Parking is available along Layton Avenue from 13th Street to 20th Street.)

Transportation Secretary Mark Gottlieb will be joined by the community, area officials, businesses and contractors to celebrate the opening of the new Mitchell Interchange, on budget and over one month early.

About the Mitchell Interchange:

The four-year project constructed a new and modern interstate on I-94/I-43 between College Avenue and Howard Avenue, including I-894/I-43 from 27th Street to the system interchange. Crews built three new tunnels, 51 bridges, 50 retaining walls and 17 noise walls.

The new interchange features 300,000 tons of asphalt, 12,000 tons of steel, 13 miles of bridge girders and 17 miles of storm sewer.
