I-39 ramp gate installation scheduled in Stevens Point area this week
November 12, 2012
Motorists can expect to encounter flagging operations
Crews are installing ramp gates at five I-39 interchanges in the Stevens Point area beginning today (November 12). The ramp gates will be installed at:
- I-39/WIS 54
- I-39/Portage County B
- I-39/Portage County HH
- I-39/US 10 east/WIS 66 west
- I-39/WIS 66 east/Stanley Street
Motorists will encounter flagging operations and are reminded to drive with caution in the work zone.
The ramp gates are a safety component tied to the recent resurfacing of the freeway, which was completed in summer 2012. The gates will be installed at the northbound and southbound on-ramps of each interchange. The ramp gates would be used in the event of an emergency requiring a high level of traffic control to the freeway (i.e., a severe snowstorm, flooding, or a major incident on the highway system) to ensure the safety of the traveling public and emergency responders.
Work is scheduled for completion by the end of the day on Friday, November 16. The schedule is subject to change based on weather conditions and construction status.
