WisDOT announces two conferences for December

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT), along with the College of the Menominee Nation, will host a two-day Annual Tribal Transportation Conference on December 11-12 at the Lake of the Torches Resort in Lac du Flambeau, with the theme "New Horizons: Enhancing Partnerships & Creating Opportunities."

This will be the sixth annual event, bringing together state, tribal, federal and transportation construction professionals to increase their understanding of governmental and transportation initiatives of the 11 tribes of Wisconsin and WisDOT.

The conference is geared towards: Tribal government representatives; construction industry representatives, business owners and consultants; and other organizations and agencies that work in the transportation construction industry.

Conference highlights will include:

  • Important changes to the new MAP-21 Tribal Transportation Program and funding opportunities
  • State, tribal task force, and federal updates
  • Transportation safety, updates and issues in cultural resources/historic preservation, transit program and funding opportunities
  • Bureau of Indian Affairs and WisDOT labor and business, networking and purchasing opportunities.

WisDOT Secretary Mark Gottlieb will provide a welcome at 8:30 a.m. on December 11.

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation will host the 27th Annual Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) Workshop and Secretary’s Golden Shovel Awards on Friday, December 14, 2012 at the Country Springs Hotel & Conference Center in Waukesha.

The theme is "New Horizons: Moving Forward towards New Possibilities" for this event, which is designed for road construction contractors, transportation industry consultants, and WisDOT stakeholders. Registration starts at 7:30 a.m. and the General Session begins at 8 a.m. Secretary Gottlieb is the keynote speaker and will present the Golden Shovel Awards at noon.

The cost to attend each of the above events is $65 per event, but $100 for attending both.
