Governor Walker approves more than $173,000 for project at Manitowish Waters Airport

Governor Scott Walker approved today a $173,242 project to clear obstructions from the runway approaches at the Manitowish Waters Airport in Vilas County.
Stacey Miller, airport engineering specialist with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT), said the project also includes the updating of airport layout plan (ALP). These planning documents are necessary to ensure safety and compliance.
Funding Breakdown
- State = $4,331
- Town of Manitowish Waters = $4,331
- Federal Aviation Administration = $164,580
The project is scheduled to begin this spring and should be completed by fall of 2013.
Manitowish Waters Airport has two runways. Its paved runway is 3,500 feet, while its turf runway is 3,300 feet.
